On of Those Days?

Have you ever had "one of those days" where it just feels like it wont end. The last few weeks have been one of those days for me.  I'm starting to wonder if I need to get used to it and that's what two mobile children means.
Grace has been potty training since the end of January and I'm ready to give in and wait a month to restart the potty training. She started out SO wonderfully, was going great even started going b herself. Then we had a few busy away form home days and now she wets herself all the time, sometimes lets me know she has to go pee. She also was getting much better at pooping on the potty, like every day we'd get a poop on the potty, now it's only in her pants- not one in the potty in weeks. I'm ready for her to be fully trained and keep thinking if I just spend a week hard core training it'll get her back to good again, but every week has been hectic somehow.
Adam has been crawling now a few weeks and that's great. I forgot how fast they move and how much they put in their mouths. Having an older sibling makes it all the harder, they leave a LOT on the floor that can go in the mouth and be choked on. Luckily we've never had to deal with a choking, but I'm always aware of it and try to be vigilant.
I look at my kids and they make me smile (and pull out my hair). Somedays I have to remind myself to look at them for the good they are, not the mess she's making but the learning she's doing. Not the spit up on the floor, but the happy little boy. They're great and I'm happy to have them drive me crazy.

Snow? Tomorrow's May

The weather has been pretty nice lately, but today it snowed. In a week it's supposed to be in the upper 70s lower 80s. This time of year is always a little crazy with the weather and I'm greatly looking forward to planting. Just a few more weeks of consistently good weather and I will be getting plants in the ground.
Adam cut his first tooth yesterday, that's exciting and reminds me of all of Grace's firsts. We haven't tracked Adam's as well but I think I will see if I can look through pictures and figure out when all his firsts were too.

Sleep

My little Grace has always been a great sleeper. When she was a newborn she slept well in her bassinet, when we moved her to the crib she didn't fuss, when we sleep trained so she'd sleep through the night it took less than a week and my 4 month old slept all night. She took 2-3 long naps as an infant and take 1 long nap everyday now as a toddler. She was an over all calm cuddly baby (toddler Grace isn't as calm, but she's still good).
Adam, my sweet little boy, has always had trouble sleeping. Newborn Adam had to sleep in your arms, that terrified me, I couldn't sleep holding him but I had to sleep. We got past that and he finally slept in his bed for short times. Then we got into the habit of me sleeping on his couch with him because he wanted to nurse a long time and I was exhausted- we were back to needing to cuddle for him to sleep at least at night. Most recently I found out Adam's not been taking his second nap. He'd been acting up so I set up the video monitor we got with Grace and found that he'd fuss (as usual) at the start of nap time then play quietly for over an hour before fussing again. I shut his door for nap so I thought he was sleeping during the quiet time and when I opened the door the check on him and found him awake and happy I always assumed he'd woken happy. I'm glad that we've found he's not sleeping is a big problem and now we can work on that. Yesterday I let be in his crib until he gave into the nap and he slept much better last night. It'll take a few days to a week to combat this, but I'm determined to get my 8 month old sleeping and sleeping through the night finally.
I love my kids so much and if I could I'd cuddle them all night. I've always wanted to cuddle Grace all night, but she wont sleep if she's not in her bed. I've loved the nightly cuddles with Adam (as he doesn't cuddle other times) but I need my sleep and you just don't sleep as well with a baby.

It's Spring

I'm so excited to see spring is here. It felt like it was going to stay gone a while and yes there's still snowy patches but it's basically snow free. I spent a large part of the day working outside to prep the lawn for the annual Easter egg hunt and lunch. We've got a dog and my sister frequently brings her dogs over so there's often lots of stinky work to do with the yard come spring and I'm grateful I have the party because it gets me motivated to really work on that. Soon we'll be fertilizing, filling some holes, and spreading the grass seed.

Piglets

Found this lovely I composed back in June 2012- funny thing is we just had piglets again. I hope you enjoy this found lost treasure :)

So, the day after my last post we had piglets. Tasty, our black sow had 10 live births... 7 of which had to be hand delivered by Adam. It was a rough, long night. We weren't exactly prepared for delivering piglets, but we learned a lot. We're hoping that she only had such a hard time because this was her first set of piglets, but we'll find out with the next batch. Fingers crossed that she does well with her next set, because if she doesn't then we will probably eat her.

Then 3 days later Yumyum our white sow had piglets too. She had 11 live births none of which needed help. She pigged out wonderfully and even let Grace come spend time with her in the pig house while she was laboring and let Grace let her and see the piglets.  It's exciting to watch piglets being born, getting to wipe them down and hold the tiny little guys knowing in 5-6 months you could be eating them, funny to look and see little hams running around.

Where Have I Been!?

So- my computer broke, which means I lost all my book marked pages and I never bothered to even try to find my blog even though it was SO easy to do since I follow other people's blogs, I think I might claim motherhood for keeping me away.
Anyway, in the next few weeks I'm going to catch you up on all the happening over the last... well YEAR basically. I hope you didn't miss me... lots of fun posts to come I think.

The Busy Month I've Had

This month proved to be an extremely busy and expensive one. I don't much enjoy the expensive parts, but they are in order to save us money over the long run.
The month started with two baby appointments. The first one was my ultrasound! We excitedly found out we are having a little man this time. Adam was is so excited and we're both anxiously awaiting the arrival of this guy. The very next day I saw my OB/GYN to go over the ultrasound and just a regular baby check up, he doesn't do the big ultrasounds in office. Everything looks wonderful with the new addition and he's right on track with his due date of August 23, 2012.
Then we had our annual Easter Egg Hunt/Party. This year we had 60 people out and the weather was wonderful. Yet again, I failed to get ANY pictures, I always mean well but forget to pull out the camera. Prepping for Easter was harder this year as the weather was very wet and soggy in the days leading up to it and it's hard to get the yard nice in the rain. Grace loved Easter though and she and I both got a little sun burnt.
The following week we switched over insurance carriers. This was an EXPENSIVE part of the month. However, it's going to save us several hundred dollars a year. We went from a monthly payment plan to a bi-yearly plan, so we had to pay for 6 months at once. We're excited though because we switch our renters and car insurance over as well as adding the mini van (did I mention we now own my parents old minivan, yep, did that this month too) and Adam's motorcycle all have insurance for cheaper then what we used to pay for well... just the car before! It's amazing how much you can save sometimes and it's good to shop around at times.
This last week we've finally gotten around to getting stuff for Adam and the motorcycle. Oh, and we've fixed up the minivan another huge EXPENSE. Adam needed new tires for his bike and he really needed new riding gear, so we took care of that this week. The van has been in and out of the shop this week, we took it in and it was "done" but the drive home proved that some things got missed, so back it went.
All and all, lots of running around and looking at the budget and savings and just feeling so sick. The new baby will be here in 4 months or so and building savings back up to pay for the baby is possible (actually, should be really easy with the money saving switches) but I'd rather have the money for the baby now. Thousands of dollars have been spent fixing the van and bike and getting the proper riding gear, the best part.... we're not done yet. I'm just so glad I have a wonderful husband that works hard so that we're able to build up savings quickly and afford to do big things.
I keep telling myself, new insurance is saving us hundreds of dollars a year, the van needed a good tune up (and the random electrical issues resolved), the bike will save us half our fuel costs at the very least every month he rides. One money draining, running month will make for money saving, slower months to come. What I don't understand is how did this month drrrrraaaa...ggggg on this month with everything that's happened.
22 weeks down in this pregnancy, 18 left to go!
