Milestones

The other day I got a late (but very welcomed) invite to my cousins Birthday. I love spending time with family so I got myself all ready and headed out the door. I'm so glad I went because...

Grace walked for the first time that night!!!! She did such a good job in front of everybody and walked a few times actually. She didn't walk to me at all, but I loved watching her and all her attempts. Since then she hasn't walked too much at home for me (believe me I've tried everything to get her to walk again). A little sad her dad missed the walk and hasn't gotten a chance to see her yet since then (work and school), so I'm trying to get her ready for when daddy is home to walk for him.

The walking got me thinking about her other milestones too though. Adam was convinced she'd hit every major one on a Sunday because so far she had a lot of Sunday milestones, walking happened on a Tuesday though. She rolled well for the first time on Sunday August 21. Sat up on her own for the first time Saturday August 27. Pull herself up to stand Friday September 2nd.  She crawled (in front of her daddy not me) on Sunday September 4th. Got her fist tooth on Sunday October 9th. What a year it's been (2011).

Getting Colder...

It has started getting colder and that means getting ready for the snow to fall. I love the snow that I'm so hoping will dump on us this year, but don't care too much for the frigged cold that often comes before the snow.  I can't wait for the sledding this year and the chance for my dear daughter to really experience the snow for the first time. I so want there to be enough snow to build a snow man family and I'm really excited to go pick a Christmas tree from a local tree farm as a family.
The cold does mean something else though... winter prep work. We have to go and put something both well houses that will keep the pipes warm enough to not freeze, both of our well housings are above ground. Closing the attic door that goes to the outside, during the summer it's open to let the heat out. Finding all the snow shovels that have been moved all over the property, used for shoveling gravel, scrapping the chicken house out, and other tasks. Removing the garden and this year that also mean putting the pigs in the garden to "till" the ground. And in general just gathering things we wouldn't want lost under a blanket of snow.
